Hi hari,
usually you need a GSM module connected to your computer. A cell phone accepting commands from the computer may work.
Some mobile service providers also accept emails and forward them as SMS to the phone. You need to use special address for the email depending on your service provider…

Dependeing where you live. for example in the US if you send an email to a user who has a cellphone number with verizon example : 699-777-8989
you will send an email to 6997778989@vtext.com
for att i think it is 6997778989@txt.att.net
either way the person will recieve a text message on the cellphone
ask you cellular network supplier for it.

Attached is a VI that works for many US carriers. It performs an email to the carrier that is then forwarded to the phone. This version must provide an email server to authenticate to. This also uses the older email VIs and don't support encryption and therform maybe rejected. It can be updated to use the new email VIs in 2013. The important part is getting the email address to send to based on the cell phone carrier to be used.
