You could also simply use the Find Instrument Drivers inside of LabVIEW.

I would think so.  Typically when Agilent adds the letters, there's some performance tweek or firmware update.  The SCPI commands should not be changing.

You need to look at the differences since the L is a CW generator. The driver for the A model may not support all functions. You can modify the driver and add anything that is missing.
