Labview 7.1 installation problem

Hi all-

I had to rebuild my machine and had to reinstall LabView.
Before the rebulid, everything with NI, DAQ cards and LV were running smoothly.


Now I have run into troubles upon re-installation of LabView.

First the specs:
Windows XP, SP2
3 NI cards: 6071E, 6602, 6503.
LV 7.1
NI-DAQ 6.9.3  (ancient, I know. I built software over the past 5 years that
interfaces to even more ancient electronics, so I'm forced into using these
versions.)


At any rate, my problem is that after I install LV, then the drivers, I do not see NI-DAQ VIs
appear in my LV functions palette.  I found the document online that says
to do LV first, then the drivers second (following the advise in:

That is to say, when XP boots up, the little bubbles pop up saying "new PCI device detected."  I click cancel so that drivers are not installed until AFTER I install LV.  Then when I reboot, I install the drivers for all 3 cards listed above.

The cards are recognized OK, and I can see and configure them in MAX, just no functions on the palette were installed that correspond to these cards, such as AI-start.vi, DIO Port configure.vi, DIO write.vi, etc.

I tried reversing the order, drivers first, LV second, no luck.
I know it is possible to succeed, because I did this correctly once before 4
years ago.  But I can't figure out what is going wrong now.

A few last tidbits that might prove helpful:
 just to be clear: there are 3 CDs involved with this installation.
1. LV full development system 7.1 CD
2. Instrument Device Drivers CD
3. NI-DAQ software for windows xp (v 6.9.3) CD


When I am prompted for the device drivers disk, all goes well...I think.
When prompted to "select features to install" I selectr "Traditional NI
DAQ 7.0" and proceed.  I do not need DAQmx, so I don't choose to install it.


Any ideas what I am doing wrong/how to fix this?  I am probably missing something obvious.
NI people are such a knowledgeable bunch, and I'm sure we'll nip this in the bud no problem.

Hi Jon,

I checked into your problem.  Your LabVIEW and DAQ versions are not compatible.  There are some extra steps you will have to follow to be able to use NI-DAQ 6.9.3 with LabVIEW 7.x or 8.x.  Please follow the steps in this KB:Using Older Versions of NI-DAQ (6.9.3) with LabVIEW 7.x and 8.x to solve your issue.  This should solve the problem you are having with the missing DAQ VI's in your LabVIEW functions pallette.

Thanks for the response.

Since all my NI-cards (6071E, 6602, and 6503) were compatible with a later version of NI-DAQ, I went that route instead, installing NI-DAQ 7.4.4.

All is well now.

Hi Jon,

I am glad to hear that you are able to upgrade to NI-DAQ 7.4.4.  That is easier that trying to stay with 6.9.3.  7.4.4 is the latest version of the legacy DAQ driver and you should experience less problems with it.  I wish you the best in your application!
