LabVIEW 8 development environment is unbearably slow

The LabVIEW 8 development environmnet is unbearably slow.  When working with a new, blank VI I do not notice any problems.  However, as I start to work on my larger VIs, especially my top level VI with ~1000 sub-VIs, then there is a significant time delay between most operations.  For example, everytime I delete a wire, LabVIEW "hangs" (more like thinks with its hourglass) for  3-5 seconds.  There is also a 3 to 5 second delay everytime I insert anything or move anything on the block diagram.  I am positive that my hardware is adequate (P4 3.2GH w/ HT, 1.5 GB RAM) becase there was no noticeable problems in LabVIEW 7.  Does anyone know how to speed this up?  Its gotten to the point where its so time consuming (just waiting for LabVIEW to refreash every time I do anything) that it is almost counterproductive to develop at all.  Yesterday it took me almost 3 hours to copy 30 controls, rename them, and insert them into case structures.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Wow, I just received my LV8 upgrade and I regularly work with VIs containing 600+ subVIs.  Is anyone else having this experience???

I've notified our R&D department of this issue. Thanks for brining it up!

Do you have Tab controls on the front panel by chance?

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

Yes I do have tab controls on the front panel.  Is there a known issue with this?  If so, is there a viable workarround (short of just not using them?)

There is an issue when using charts on tabs. I've had this problem, but didn't really see any problem on the block diagram. I just had the problems listed in the linked KB article. The article only lists 7.1.1, but the problem is still there in 8.0 and 8.0.1.

I'm just wondering if this is an extension of that problem. I suppose the applicaiton is too large to remove the tabs to see if that helps.

It was an interesting article but not exactly relevant.  The KB article specified that the problem was in setting properties for the chart, and that it was sped up when the chart was moved from the tab.  I am experienceing absolute sluggishness with absolutely everything, not just charts on tabs.  But thank you very mush for the article.

I realize that it's not exactly what you are seeing, but my main reason for bringing it up was to make the AE looking into it aware of the existing problem so they can  try and see if they are related.

Forum,
We very much appreciate what you're going through and would like to look into it further. Would you be willing to set up a service request at support@ni.com and email in your application? We may have to set up an FTP transfer but we are certainly interested in helping out. Post to let us know what you think. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I'm having the same problems as described above. There is a freeze (hourglass) of about 9 seconds each time I do anything.

Was anything usefull found on how to fix this problem?

thanks in advance.

Daniel
