Suggestion for Reliable IR/Positional Sensor compatible with USB 6212

Hi,

I have a hollow cylinder(Inner diameter 1/3 inch) where there is a rubber piston goes up and down through the one end of the hollow cylinder. On the other end, I want to put a sensor, that will detect the current position of the rubber piston.
Personally I prefer sensors with Analog outputs, so that I can get data through NI USB 6212 DAQ. Can you suggest me a compact sensor that gives reliable data?

Distance range?

Accuracy?

Drift?

Dynamics (how fast)?

Reliable ??? Time? , conditions (temp, humidity,....)?

CNY70??

or something like a µ-epsilon confocalDT IFS2403  😉

Sorry I did not add the specifications.

Distance range: 0-8 inches

Accuracy: Error should be less than 1%

Dynamic: Maximum frequency 10Hz

Conditions: room temperature

I used reliable to highlight accuracy of the sensor. I prefer some sensors that has analog output.

Checkout the sensors available at https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/shopping/catalog/sensors_-z-_encoders/photoelectric_sensors/dis...

This company has a good configurator tool - https://www.micro-epsilon.com/displacement-position-sensors/laser-sensor/konfigurator/

and ILD1420-200 seem to fit your requirements.

In general, distance sensors are going to be LASER based
