Driver User

Do you have to use the driver user on the classmate when controlling the robot, or can you use the driverstation on the programmers user?

For the competition your are required to use the Driver account set up as the documentation outlines in

Getting Started with the 2012 Control System

But off the competition court you can do what ever you wish. It does not matter.

Rule number ONE in FIRST is "Read the manual"

This was true in previous years, but isn't true this year. There is no reference of requiring a driver accout in the document you linked. However Installing the 2012 Driver Station software on a non-Classmate PC says "The 2012 FRC Driver Station does not require a user login named “Driver” to link to the Field Management System (FMS)."

However, I do recommend you use a "clean" account for the driver station, to minimize chance of interference.
