HP 34970A problem with RS232

I want to control a HP34970A so i tested it with the Vi given in exemple by labview. I configurated the baud rate, parity on the DMM. I try to send "*IDN?" with labview but i have an error: "-1073807202" i don't know why.

could you help me. thank you

Hello, i'm a student and i have a problem with the synchronisation between my computer and Hp 34790a, I dont know how to do it, i just tried to put the rights parameter in the exemple Vi of the drivers and it worked only once. the communication is make by the serial port.
Please, if somebody would have a manual or something that can help me i'll be so glad.
Thank you.

Hi,

If you would post your VI here, we can help take a look at your VI first.

Best regards

Hi Marcolux,

If you want have the data simultaneous between PC and HP-34970, it's not possible because GPIB bus is not a very fast for this.

But you have web page, that explain how use Synchronous functions and Asynchronous functions for GPIB interface. It's a software capabilities, and it is important that our driver be capable of synchronous as well as asynchronous transfers. By having the ability to transfer data asynchronously, the instrument control application can devote PC processor time to other tasks. For example, an application can have two simultaneous loops, one responsible for the GPIB transfers and one that can perform other analysis or user interface tasks.

@Luc,
try to communicate through another program e.g. "hyperterminal" or if you have the VISA software installed use the "VISA Interactive Control". That's the fastest way to check, if the configuration is done correctly. Once this is working you can continue with LabVIEW.

@MarcoLux
that sounds to me like data collision. Are you shure that the LabVIEW communication is really "serial" in the meaning of send query then waiting for reply before sending next time? Sending a query before receiving the complete data leads to a "collaps". A synchronisation between program and a serial connected device should not be so difficult as long you keep a proper serial sequence in your program.

Ciao,
Olli
