Running Introduction labs

I recently installed NI ELVIS software and am trying to run the example labs that came with ELVIS to become familiar.
I want to use labview to control the variable power supply. I am referrring to "vi" files that were obtained
with the ELVIS workstation (i.e. Introduction to NI Elvis CD). In particular I have been trying to run
the "RC Transient" and "Digital Thermometer" labs. They will not run though.
There is an error in the block diagram that indicates I do not have device one connected properly to
the VPS_Initialize block. I have not modified these files I obtained from the introduction to NI elvis cd. Why will
they not work. I have labview 7 installed, a DAQ card that works, and the NI elvis equipment installed. The manual
functions (oscilloscope, DMM, etc.) of ELVIS communicate properly with the DAQ but I want labview to control them.
Also, none of the other labs which try to use the oscilloscope and other specific features of ELVIS work. They all
have the same error noted above. The error is shown in the attachment.

Thanks,

David

I think your best bet in this situation is to right click on the input to the Initialize vi (where the 1 is currently wired in) and choose create constant. This will create a DAQmx Device Name constant. From here, you should be able to select Dev1 and not have any problems.

Hope this helps, reply back if it does not.

David,

I recently encountered the same problem and it has been resolved. I have a set of VI's that have been corrected. Hang on and I'll see how to get them to you. I am also working on some other issues that you may eventually encounter, depending upon what you set out to do with NI ELVIS.

Anuj, Just out of curiosity, what version of NI ELVIS and what version of LabVIEW are you running?

David, see if the attached R-C Transient vi works for you. If so, then we had the same problem and I will get the others to you.

I am having the same problem that David had when trying to run the Introduction to NI Elvis VI files.  I get the exact same error (broken wire on the NI Elvis VPS-Initialization VI).

NI Elvis by itself works fine and the card (PCI-6251) tests out fine in MAX.

Is there a way I could get the set of VI's that RonT has where the  problem has been resolved?

Thanks,

Tom

Dear Tom,

The original Introduction to NI Elvis VI files are written in Traditional DAQ, so they won't work with your PCI-6251. There is a great KnowledgeBase that explains this and provides the new VIs. Have a great day!

Sincerely,
Marni S.

I can't get the courseware "RC Transient.vi" to load up because it can't find the following files:

NI ELVIS VPS - Initialize (Device).vi"

    NI ELVIS VPS - Close.vi

    NI ELVIS VPS - Update.vi

    NI ELVIS VPS - Initialize.vi

I have downloaded the updated lab files from the KB article that Marni references, but it still doesn't work.

I'm using NI ELVIS II - could that be the problem? If so, how to fix?

Thanks in advance,

Ben
