Powering WSN with external battery

I'm considering a WSN for a project that I'm working on that will need some extremely long duration, stand alone operation. I've seen the performance benchmarks for the internal batteries. I'm considering using a battery wired into the external power inputs. I'm trying to figure our how to size these external batteries.

Has anyone done this? Any benchmarks you're willing to share?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi jdean,

Just so long as you stay within the power requirements of the WSN components, there should not be a problem with using external alkaline batteries. Also, the power consumption specifications listed for your specific WSN device should help in decided the size of the battery to select for your extended durations.

I hope this helps!
