Has anyone made any custom devices for pickering (other than the example)?

I did some searched for Pickering and custom devices and didn't find anything so I made a post.

Has anyone created any custom devices for use with any Pickering PXI cards?  Specifically the 40-156-001 and 40-140-221.  I have several of these cards in a test bench that need custom devices created for them.  I don't know much about (literally meaning - I'm brand new to them) creating custom devices and definitely don't want to reinvent the wheel.

If anyone has made one and can share it or any insight with me I would appreciate it.  Thanks.

Hi Joe,

There are no other Pickering custom devices other than the example that I'm aware of. You can check through our NI VeriStand Add-ons forums to confirm, which is where they would be located.

In terms of resources for getting started with custom devices, this DevZone article has a lot of getting started information when it comes to creating custom devices. If you want a lot of in-depth information, I would recommend the NI VeriStand 2010 Custom Device Developer's Guide. There's also the Easy Custom Device tool, which might be more appropriate since you're just getting started with custom devices. I see that you've tried to download it before (unless some other joedowdle is the last post in the forum) - I downloaded it just now and it worked fine for me. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for the information I'll take a look.

Is the Easy Custom Device tool the same as the NI VeriStand FPGA-Based I/O Interface Tools?  That is the tool that I couldn't get working right.  I got it working on one of the two computers I'm working on, but the second one isn't my main development computer.  I am out of town for the week, but I'll be sure to check it out when I get back.

Hi Joe,

The Easy Custom Device tool is different from the FPGA-Based I/O Interface Tools. The Easy Custom Device tool exists to simplify the creation of any custom device, whereas the FPGA Tools exists specifically to add custom FPGA personalities for existing NI hardware. Since you're not working with existing NI FPGA hardware, you should look at the Easy Custom Device Tool.

I am actually used FPGA hardware for other parts of this PXI chassis, but I don't think that is going to interfere with this.  That's probably where I got them mixed up.  I've been reading a lot about both lately.  I'm just trying to get my feet wet in the area of custom devices when I have the extra time because it's a looming part that needs to be done as soon as I finish the FPGA stuff.  Thanks for the help.
