Success with VME-PCI8026 with Fedora Core 3 kernel 2.6.12 or similar?

We're exploring options to allow use of 1553 cards in a VME rack by a Linux based system.  We are considering the National Instruments VME-PCI8026 to provide an interface between the Linux system and the VME rack..  The Linux system is running Fedora Core 3 with a 2.6.12 kernel.  National Instruments says FC3 with 2.6.12 is not directly supported or tested.  Has anyone had success with this PCI-VME interface on a Linux system similar to ours?  If so, can you provide any information on any issues you encountered?  Thanks for any help you can provide.
