We have adopted a coding convention (applicable to SubVIs) that Controls/Indicators on the front panel that are connected to the connector pane have 'normal' names, and Controls not connected to the connector pane are therefore constants and should have "CONST" at the beginning of their name, and indicators (not connected to connector pane) would be debug items and would have "DEBUG" at the beginning of their name.

This VI analyzer test helps verify this naming convention.
