IR Heartbeat Sensor (Osram IRL 81 A, LPT 80 A)

Sensor Type: Osram IRL 81 A (Emitter), LPT 80 A (Detector)

LabVIEW or C: LabVIEW

Version of LV: 2013

Description:

Pulse measurement by using infrared light bases on the principle of light absorption of oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin. Oxygenated hemoglobin absorbs more infrared light than deoxygenated. Through that less infrared light is reflected by the finger from oxygenated hemoglobin, more from deoxygenated. The emitter emits infrared light. The returning light is determined by the detector and output as a signal in LabVIEW.

Download IRL 81A and LPT 80A datasheets from web for more information and specifications.

Instructions:

To get a useful signal it is important to put sensors at about 1cm out of each other and place a tape on the pins of the emitter and the detector so your finger does not contact the blank pins. Otherwise you will get falsified values.

(see pictures)

Just place your finger on the sensor, don’t press it and stay still at sensor for an accurate measurement. Wait till pulse value stabilizes.
