Title: A Novel Billion Dollar Money Saving Energy Management Software Using NI LabVIEW
Description:
This project presents a novel concept of energy management software for developing efficient home energy management system. The investigator has designed extremely powerful energy management software by using NI LabVIEW, which is proficient of accomplishing very complex calculations in fraction of seconds, giving the data immediately, hence increasing the efficiency of energy managers several times. This software will also give direction regarding energy saving, energy management, money back period, harmonics, electrical power quality etc.

The challenge:
Today ‘Energy’ has become the essential and most basic need of human being. With the innovation of technology, the utilization of electrical energy is also increasing day by day. The increase in utilization of energy is becoming threat for all the countries as it leads to severe energy crisis. The demand of electrical energy is far greater than the supply in almost all the countries. This can be controlled by either increasing the resources or by proper energy management. Energy conservation, energy auditing etc. are different tools of energy management which are used by energy managers. But the problem is it takes lot of time. Also normal people can not analyze the different energy related data due to its complexity and therefore till now energy management is not being successfully implemented by normal people. Due to this daily huge amount of energy is being wasted. It has become an urgent need to make people trained in energy management so that they can cumulatively save billion and billion dollar energy of the world.
Therefore the main challenges before the world is:
(a) Save electrical energy at any cost
(b) Make the process of energy auditing and other functions of energy managers very fast so that energy auditing & management may be made popular among people
(c) Lower down the enrgy management and power quality instrument
(d) Make general people aware and capable of doing energy management themselves
(e) Quality monitoring and control of electrical energy
The Solution:
The energy management software developed by the investigator gives details of different energy management parameters like money back period; monthly energy consumption, billing details, total investment, power quality components etc. These parameters can be easily calculated using this software and can be implemented very efficiently.
How does project work:
The energy management software developed by the investigator is given in Figure 1 and Figure 4. It has primary input section, energy saving data input section and different output section as given in figure 1. Second part is power quality measurement section given in Figure-4.

Primary input section: Here 17 different electrical equipments/appliances slots have been given. These are the most common appliances which are used in homes/buildings.
Energy saving data input section: This section is very significant section of the software. This section gives an extensive details of energy saving and management details. This section has four inputs: Improved rating (KW), Improved Number, improved use (Hr. /Day), cost (Rs.).
Output section: Output section consists of different results like energy used per device, monthly billing, yearly billing, per device saving, total saving and money back time.
To use this software first of all the electrical appliances which we are using presently, is fed in the primary input section. Then in energy saving data input section, the modified parameters are given. After that the software is run. Then in output it gives different energy saving parameters like saving, money back period, old billing and new billing data etc. In this way very easily and efficiently it can be used in the energy management and energy conservation. It nearly saves 75-80% of time of energy managers which increase the speed to complete work.
Power quality component section : This section gives details of different parameters of power quality component like power factor, active power, reactive power, total harmonic distortion, rms voltage and current, active energy, reactive energy etc. This section has also alarming circuit used for protection purpose. This software can be used as an standard instrument for measurement of different power quality component with the use of NI ELVIS and DAQ card and its connection is given in Figure 5 .
Example: To demonstrate the use of this software, a section of library building of the institute is selected. The appliances used are given in the Table – 1. As per table the data are fed in the software. The energy saving data is filled as per the modification we want to make. Then after the software is run and all useful energy management data is obtained in the software (Figure-3).

This is an outstanding project on energy management software. As we know the world is facing a big problem of "Energy Crisis". By using this software people can save huge amount of electrical energy and will get proper direction regarding energy conservation.
