Racisim in the United States

I don’t normally like to talk about politics because I don’t want to divide people, but the murder of George Floyd has upset me very deeply.  Racism is wrong.  The United States has a long and shameful history of racism.  It began with the enslavement of Africans, and continued with segregation, xenophobia, and racism.  We need to understand our history and work to end this terrible scourge.  Our friends, neighbors, and co-workers should not be afraid for their safety when encountering the police.   The police should be a community asset, and it breaks my heart that members of our community don’t feel that way.  I know being an engineer the first step to solving a problem is first to identify it.   We have a problem with treating people with kindness and dignity.  Let’s work together to solve it.
