What do you mean by "the DAQ card works fine directly?"
DAQmx verzion 8.7.2 is the best for your application, I would reccomend that you try that as it has support for both of your devices.

what i mean by: "the DAQ card works fine directly?" is
I can connect the daq card in the PC to either the back of the SCXI chassis or to a SCB-68.
when attached to the SCB-68 i get the correct voltages.
I was under the impression that both device had support in 8.7.1
I'll get 8.7.2 and try that.
btw, I loaded nidaq 7.4 back on and the scxi works again.

bert2al,
We have two different types of DAQ, DAQmx which is the newer easier to use version and we have Traditional DAQ (NI-DAQ) that is older but still used in some applications. I would recommend DAQmx, do you know which you are using?
Are you taking these measurements in Measurement & Automation Explorer or in a VI you have written? If it is a VI you have written and you are upgrading from Traditional DAQ to DAQmx you will have to change a few of the VIs before it will run properly.

I'm using DAQmx in labview. but I've also tried it with MAX with the same result.

bert2al,
Are you using the 6221 to control the SCXI? Just so you know this is not supported per the Knowledge Base here.
Did the upgrade to 8.7.2 help?
Just to clarify again you said "btw, I loaded nidaq 7.4 back on and the scxi works again." this is DAQmx 7.4 correct (we have both tradtional and DAQmx with this #)?

"Are you using the 6221 to control the SCXI? Just so you know this is not supported per the Knowledge Base"
your link failed, but the following links say that pci 622x and scxi-1120d are Supported in both versions of NI-DAQmx (I am using DAQmx)
http://ftp.ni.com/support/softlib/multifunction_daq/nidaqmx/7.4/readme.html#MXSupport
http://ftp.ni.com/support/softlib/multifunction_daq/nidaqmx/8.7/readme.html#OS
I haven't gotten around to downloading 8.7.2
"Just to clarify again... "
the CD I have loads both APIs: NI-DAQmx, Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy). But i am using mx.

I interrupt this to mean there are two versions of the PCI-6221 card. I have the 68 pin pci-6220 card which I believe is compable with SCXI.
(after all the system does appear to work with nidaqmx 7.4)
3rd, thanks for your help

bert2al,
I am sorry I was thinking that you were using the USB-6221 referred to in the first post. I would like to see if 8.7.2 helps this issue. It could possibly fix two things, one being a incompatibility in the drivers and the second being a corrupted installation.
What do you mean by doesn't work and works? Do you have 2 different setups or is this the same computer? Is everything connected the same with both versions of DAQmx? Could you post screenshots of the error/incorrect readings you are getting?

"What do you mean by doesn't work and works?"
when 0.16V is applied (measure independently via DVM) it works if the daq reads 0.16V it doesn't work if daq reads 0.5V (on 0.5V range)
"Do you have 2 different setups or is this the same computer?"
i have pci-6220 connected to scxi chassis with 1120d
works with 7.4; doesn't work with 8.7
pci-6220 to scb-68 works for both versions
"Is everything connected the same with both versions of DAQmx?"
yes
we also own a usb-6221 which i believe doesn't work with nidaq 7.4, which instigated the upgrade.
new information i hesitate to give because it will add confusion. but...
we also have scxi-1600 in another chassis with another 1120d - completely different hardware & different PC.
it was working - i upgraded labview from 7.1 to 8.2 (which also upgraded nidaq) next time i try using the scxi it had the same symptom
i will download the 8.7.2 tonight
