different types of sensors in the same SCXI module

Can I use two different type of sensors (ex : a K-type and E-type of thermocpouples or a E-type of thermocouple and a speed sensor) in the same SCXI module ? In case it is possible to do so, how do I tell labVIEW to scan the particular channels (ex: channels 1 to 10) for E-type of thermocouples while scanning the the other channels (ex 11 to 21) for either K-type of thermocouples or speed sensors.

Dunty,

You can certainly connected transducers/sensors of different types to the same SCXI module. The easiest way to do this is to use Virtual Channels. These can be configured in MAX. You will simply configure E-type thermocouple virtual channels for each E-type thermocouple and K-type virtual channels for all of your K-type thermocouples.

In LabVIEW you will reference your input channel as the virtual channel you have configured in MAX.

What are the virtual channels that you are talking abt ? I am taking actual measurents from an engine. can you tell me in a lillte bit more detailed way or refer me to some manual or online document that explains how to do this.

Thanks.

Dunty,

We have an excellent support web site at http://www.ni.com. Most all questions are answered in Knowledge Base articles available on this site. For example, going to www.ni.com and searching for "what is a virtual channel" will bring up the following Knowledge Base article.

What Is a Virtual Channel? How Do I Create One?

Virtual Channels, or Global Channels if you are using NI-DAQ 7.0, are created in the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). Launch MAX and open the Data Neighborhood folder. Virtual Channels are great because they contain all scaling and conversion data built-in to the channel and don't require tha
n you perform such actions in software.

More help on Virtual Channels or items able to be performed in the MAX utility is available from the MAX help pull-down menu.

The DAQ Quick Start Guide is also an excellent resource. It, and all other manuals, are available from http://www.ni.com/manuals/
