NI-9208 Input Card - Is it Damaged?

I have a NI-9208 with 11 devices connected. Everything that is connected reads 22mA, if there are no connections it reads 0mA. I removed all but one channel and measured 1.9V at the input pin to common. This tells me there is an intact connection through the internal resistor but NI_Max reads 22 mA. Is the board damaged?

Hi technics,

  • I understand that your inputs are reading 22mA when everything is connected, but what if you try one device at a time? What are the expected current values? What are you actually reading? Could you please corroborate this with a multi meter?
  • Do you have either a current or voltage source available?
    • If so, please try doing a loopback test. Define a current value and check what the readings are.
  • What's the impedance/voltage read in between different pins and GND?

Thank you for your reply. I removed all but one pressure transmitter. I measure about 1.9v between the AI and common. This is exactly as I would expect given 4-20mA is equivalent to 1-5v. But the 9208 reads 22mA. The behavior is the same in my vi and in M&A Explorer.

For your our other two points, I will check them tomorrow.

We were using inputs 0-7 and pins 13-15, so we moved the three up to be in sequence. Now everything is fine so maybe we damaged those lower channels.
