sbRIO9637 RS-232/RS-485/CAN cable

hi

I want to make RS-232/RS-485/CAN cable of sbRIO 9637 national instrument,I know sbRIO board is DTE (data terminal equipment)

1-How about devices such as displays or input devices which will be connect to DTE through RS232 cable?(DTE or DCE) the answer helps me to choose direct or cross RS232 connection between pin 2(RXD) and 3(TXD) of board  to 2(RXD) and 3(TXD) pin of connected device ?
