Hi everyone,
I am troubleshooting an NI sbRIO-9608 and would appreciate some guidance.
System details:
- Hardware: sbRIO-9608
- Software: LabVIEW with FPGA + Real-Time + CompactRIO installed
- Application context: custom RT + FPGA project using RMC digital I/O and FIFOs
Current problem:
The sbRIO-9608 is not booting properly anymore.
Observed symptoms:
- POWER LED stays OFF
- Status LED keeps blinking and behind board LED DS20 and DS21 also blink.
- No LAN link / device not reachable over Ethernet
- Current draw fluctuates around ~0.1 A
- Supply is 12 V
- Same behavior even on bare board (no external I/O, no USB, no LAN, no external FPGA, only power connected)
What I already tried:
- Removed all external connections and tested bare board only
- Verified with a 12 V bench supply
- Increased current limit up to 3 A
- At that earlier stage I was able to work on the LabVIEW RT/FPGA side, but now the board no longer appears to boot at all
Questions:
1. On sbRIO-9608, what does “status LED blinking while POWER LED is OFF” usually indicate?
2. Does this symptom strongly suggest a hardware power/regulator/reset-loop fault?
3. Is there any recovery path I should still try (format, reflash, USB recovery, NI MAX / HCU recovery), or is that only possible if the board becomes detectable again?
4. Are there specific onboard power rails or test points that NI recommends checking first on sbRIO-9608?
At this point I am trying to determine whether this is still recoverable through software/reimaging, or whether the board is likely a hardware failure.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
