Dear All,
Is it possible to open 2 communication protocols (modbus and EtherNet/IP) on a same cRIO-9035 Ethernet port ?
For the moment:
- Ethernet port 1 is configured for EtherCAT communications (KollMorgen AKD)
- Ethernet port 2 is configured for modbus communications (3 units of Eurotherm Epack)
I want to add a device (Keyence communication unit). It can be purchased for Ethernet(TCP/IP), or for EtherNet/IP.
Do you think I could open modbus communications and Ethernet(TCP/IP) on the same port ?
Do you think I could open modbus communications and EtherNet/IP on the same port ?
Thanks in advance
Julien

I don't see a reason you couldn't do either of those options. Many connections through a single Ethernet port is quite common.

OK, I didn't know this...
thanks for the info 😀

Your naming is a little bit unfortunate. You mean apparently port in the sense of a network connector but there is also a port number in all TCP/IP based network protocols.
And while you can have many connections through the same Ethernet interface you can open/use a port number only once per network address.
From the rest of the info it appears that you want to communicate to different devices through the same interface and that certainly works.

Dear Rolf,
you're totally right 🙂 Thank you for highlighting this possible confusion.
My goal is to "communicate to different devices through the same interface", as you said.
I will try it in the next weeks.
Have a nice day 🙂
