Serial Communication with a spectrometer works under MS-DOS but doesn't work under Windows 95/98

I'm using a software wich controls a Labtest spectrometer under MS-DOS. The computer communicates with the spectrometer via the serial port. It works ok under MS-DOS but when I try to run it in a MS-DOS window from Windows 95/98, it doesn't work.

To help you I need some more info about your PC.
1. Is the PC that runs DOS, the same as the one that
runs W95/98?
2. In the HW profile (see settings) of the PC are there any problems with the com port reported?
3. Have you tried to check the communication with your
PC running W95/98 using a (Hyper)terminal program?
