Preventing reset on compaq rio

Solved!
Go to solution

We currently use several compaq rio systems within our facility.  They are all connected to the network, and have web enabled remote viewing and controls.

However, the systems they are controlling could be very dangerous if someone accidental resets the wrong Compaq RIO from MAX.  I have tried locking the systems, and checking the Password-protect Reset, but you still can accidental reboot any of the systems from Max on the network.  Is there a safe way to prevent a software reboot via MAX?

Hello,

Unfortunately there is no way to do this from MAX, but what you could do is to have your IT department create a remote subnet and then put your cRIO's on that remote subnet and then people not on the remote subnet will not be able to see those controllers.

Hi K. PH,

What you were trying was correct:

> I have tried locking the systems, and checking the Password-protect Reset, but you still can accidental reboot any of the systems from Max on the network.

The reason why that was not working for you, is because MAX caches passwords for the session; therefore you can accidentally reboot a system if MAX already knows about the password. What you need to do is to check the Password-protect Reset checkbox on all of your systems, then lock them (you might want to assign a unique password to each of them) and then re-start MAX (you might need to close all instances of MAX).
