I have installed and registered LabView Full Development 2017, as well as the real-time module. In any project if I right click on build specifications ->new the only option I see is "Source Distribution". There is no option for application(exe) like in the example: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z000000kI3USAU
I need this as I want run my programme on a compactRIO standalone.

You need LabVIEW Professional or LabVIEW Full AND LabVIEW Application Builder Module to build executables or installers.

Thanks, does this mean I cannot program the compactRIO without having the Application Builder Module?

I'm sorry, I really don't know. I never worked with compactRIO.
Maybe someone else can answer your question.

I suspect you can write programs for the cRIO without application builder. But what you can't do is create an application that runs on the cRIO without it. Just like in Windows you can run LabVIEW VIs without Application Builder, on your cRIO. But what you can't do is compile those VIs into a binary that can be ran without the IDE. So if you want to run a VI on your cRIO you don't need Application Builder. If you want to build that VI into a binary that runs on the cRIO, then you do. You'll likely want to contact NI support to get more details.
