How do I run a Host vi that is deployed unto a cRIO through a remote panel (separate computer)?

Hi all,

I apologize if this has been asked before, I couldn't find it on the NI-forums.

I am trying to run a Host.vi on a remote panel (on a separate computer) that controls FPGA code on the cRIO while the Host.vi is deployed on the cRIO. I have been able to set the Host.vi to startup on switching on the cRIO and gaining access to it via a web browser, however some of the buttons on the Host have lost functionality (I press them, they do not do anything).

I ideally want to connect a computer with Labview run-time engine and have the Host.vi boot up on screen when I switch on the cRIO. I want to minimize user input in reaching the Host code through the remote panel. Is there another method I could use to achieve this?

Thank you for your time.

Hi Mickey,

If you want to start up VIs on a machine from an RT target, you can make use of the VI server (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/FBD546A08048EA5D86256E8E0027040B). With the API functions, you can control your RT target and have it act as a remote front panel. Here is a great tutorial which explains in more detail how VI servers work and how to get started: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4062

I hope this info helps!
