FPGA Simulation

I'm trying to work through this guide:

I created a "New VI from Template" and started logging "IO Item Names" and an empty file is created but nothing is logged.

Does simulated IO apply only to specific targets? Is there another way to do what I want? FYI, my target is an NI-5783 bolted on a FlexRIO 7975

OK, I found the bug in the above. The, replace on the open file was clearing out the file at the "Shutting down" case. I guess my question now is—

Is there a preassembled template to mostly get me through this simulation? There's so much IO to configure!
