That worked! The choices from the Remote Systems were "Fieldpoint Ethernet", "Remote Device (not on the local subnet)", and "Remote VISA System". Since there was no choice for cRIO, I selected "Remote Device", entered the IP address, clicked Finish, and the cRIO-9023 showed up after a few seconds. No problem since then - got the system setup and can see all my I/O. We can call this problem solved.

Lets try to add it manually. To do this you will put the cRIO into safe
mode, and then when it is in safe mode right click on Remote Systems and
select create new. You will be able to add it via the IP address.
To answer your question about the cFP, they show up the same way that the
cRIO does in MAX. Let me know how this works for you.

Not sure how much detail you need so let me know if you need more info:
1) Could you please clarify what you mean when you say you are installing
a new cRIO system and 3 remote racks?
ANSWER: The hardware has been mounted and powered up.
1. cRIO-9023 mounted on a cRIO-9114 Chassis.
2. Three cRIO-9144 Chassis connected to the cRIO-9023 via EtherCat.
2) How is the cRIO that you are trying to connect to connected to your
Windows Vista laptop ie network, crossover cable etc.?
ANSWER: Ethernet Network via Linksys router WRT54GL.
3) If you are using a network, is the computer and the cRIO on the same
subnet?
ANSWER: Yes, using the generic 255.255.255.0. The two Compact Fieldpoint
systems we have are on the same network/subnet and I can see them - is cRIO
different from them somehow?
4) If you are using a network, how is the computer connected to the
network (wireless, wired)?
ANSWER: Both. Tried wireless and wired both give same result.
5) I know that you said that you didn't think that it was a firewall
issue, but please try and disabling your firewall and see if that works for
you.
ANSWER: I have a limited ability to disable some of these programs (McAfee
VirusScan Enterprise ver. 8.7i) since this is a PC with a standard
corporate image. I can only temporarily disable some of the features.
Windows firewall shows that it is disabled. I'll disable what I can and
try again in case I missed something the first time around. May have to
get Corporate IT involved to truly disable everything which could take
awhile.
Is there some difference between Compact Fieldpoint controllers and cRIO
controllers that they would not behave the same way on the network?

Problem Description :
1. Installing a new cRIO system with cRIO-9023 and 3 remote racks. Two
touch panels TPC-2512 & TPC-2106T. Using laptop with Win Vista Enterprise
Service Pak 1 and LabVIEW 2010 as programming station.
2. Can not view the cRIO-9023 in Measurement & Automation Explorer Version
4.7.0f4.
a. Can see my two compact filedpoint systems that are on the same
network in MAX with my Win Vista laptop. So it does not appear to be a
"firewall" problem.
b. Can see the cRIO-9023 and load software using an old laptop running
Win XP and LabVIEW 8.6.1 using Measurement & Automation Explorer Version
4.5.0f0. So the controller is functioning but I still can not see it with
the Win Vista laptop even with the system configured.
c. Can ping the cRIO-9023 using windows command prompt and get a
response. So the cRIO-9023 is connected to the network and my Win Vista
laptop can reach it.
d. Reformated the cRIO-9023 using the Win XP laptop but behavior is
still the same as a,b,& c above.
3. This looks like a software problem with LabVIEW 2010 and Measurement &
Automation Exporer. I have run the software updater utility and my
software is up to date according to it.
