Can I define an "abort state" for an IO item

Lets say I have a PWM and I never want it to go over 50% duty. I could implement that logic but what if someone (or maybe another project) hits the abort button? DIO0's last state could be "true" and then that IO would be permanently stuck at 100% duty.  Is there a way to define what you want the IO to do in an "abort" state?
