[CRIO] Powering CRIO for the first time

I have these products:

LabVIEW Control Simulation Mechatronics Embedded 8.5

LabVIEW Extended Development Suite 8.5

LabVIEW 8.5

NI-RIO 2.4.1

When I was installing the Real-time module, the installer asked for the device driver. I inserted the NI-RIO CD but it did not recognize the required files.

I am going to try LabVIEW 8.6 evaluation. Why is the evaluation software so small (549 MB)? When the 30 days is over, do I need to uninstall it and reinstall 8.6?

- Thank you

I have installed LabVIEW 8.6E.  I followed the same steps as before but when I tried to download software to cRIO, I get the time-out error. I have checked that I was using the ethernet port. Is there other reasons for the time out?

This is the console output:

I noticed that the DNS server address is that of the wireless connection. There is no corresponding DNS server address for the ethernet. I removed the DNS server address but MAX still timed-out.

- Thank you.

I could Add the software after installing NI-RIO 2.4.1. I was able to install the minimal set software to the cRIO.

For this particular setup, I installed the following in this order:

1) LabVIEW 8.6 evaluation version;

2) NI-RIO 3.0;

3) NI-RIO 2.4.1.

Hi ecw,

You will want to install LabVIEW RealTime 8.6 and NI-RIO 3.0 on the controller.  The option you have highlighted in your last screen shot is what you want on the controller.  Once your evaluation of 8.6 is over will will not need to uninstall, all you will need to do is provide a valid serial number for the upgrade.

I kind of have the same problem here. I cannot access my NI cRIO 9014 after a (succesfull?) format. Neither with a cross cable or a straight in combination with a router. I cannot see the device in MAX. Currently I'm using LabVIEW 2011 and NIRIO 4.0.1 with all the newester updates. The Status LED won't stop blinking wich means the device is not configured and has no IP. The Console Out says the following:

boot device          : tffs=0,0
unit number          : 0
processor number     : 0
host name            : host
file name            : /c/ni-rt/system/vxWorks

Hopefully someone can help me out with this problem. Thanks in advance.

Hello viss,

This is Andrew Brown, an Applications Engineer from National Instruments. Some additional configuration is necessary to detect and configure your cRIO with a crossover cable. This is detailed in the document Connecting to a LabVIEW Real-Time (RT) Target with a Crossover Cable, and a more general document is How Can I Reset the IP Address of my Real-Time Controller Using a Crossover Cable. In addition, some general troubleshooting steps you can take are detailed in this article and this article

Please let me know if this information helps, or if you have additional questions about detecting your cRIO.

Regards,

Andrew Brown

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I went trough all of the links you provided, but none of them solved my problem. The big issue is that there is no way I can connect with MAX, simple because the cRIO can't assign an IP address (at least, I suggest this is the problem because the LED is blinking once a cycle and I receive the log below from the Console Out port). Again, this all happened after a (successful) format.

Console out:

cRIO-901x Boot

The orange LED is blinking when I try to ping an IP address, therefore I assume that the network cross-cable is OK. I've set the IP-address of the Laptop to 169.254.1.1 and the subnet mask to 255.255.0.0. Also I've disabled the wireless internet connection and windows firewall.

-----

While writing this above, It turned out that I forgot to disable the ESET firewall. After disabling the ESET firewall, the cRIO-9014 showed in MAX and I was able to configure and install software on it. Problem solved I guess.

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards,

Tom Visser
