 Hi,

Need your help

We have installed the PCI 8360 in the host PC and installed the latest version of the NI PXI platform services but it still see the device as an unknown device. Ius the NI PXI Platform services the source of the driver for the PCI 8360 ?Is this unknown device condition expected when we dont have the PCI8360 connected yet at the PXI8360 on the PXI system ?

Hoping for any response out there.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Yes, PXI Platform and Services is the driver that you need to use the PCI 8360. If everything is set up correctly, you should see the PCI 8360 in NI MAX.  Is this where it shows as unknown device, or does it show unknown in Windows Device Manager?

There are a couple of things that you could try.

First, verify that the Appropriate Windows Services are started. You can find a list of these services by looking to the services installed by PXI Platform Services box in the following link:

http://www.ni.com/product-documentation/52740/en/#pxi platform

Second, try connecting to a different PCI slot in your computer.

Third, if the device shows in Windows Device Manager, try resetting the MAX configuration database as the next article describes:

I hope that this helps,

HI Sal,

Good day and thank you very much for the help.

We have installed the PCI8361 controller card in the host PC with the driver from the Platform Services cd but without any physical connections established yet to the PXI8360 at the PXI system (still waiting for the PXI system to arrive). We'd like to know if there's a way for us to check if the card is installed and working properly even without the connection yet to the PXI system ? After the installation, I dont seem to see the PCie8361 hardware in the Device Manage List or in the NI MAX as well. Wondering if the device would only appear when you already have a connection to the PXI system through the PXI 8361.

Thank you so much for the utmost support.

Best regards,

Jojo

Jojo,

There's not much that a PCI-8361 does by itself, but if you want to find it in device manager it will show up as a PCI-to-PCI bridge.  In some systems it may be something like "reverse PCI to PCI Express bridge".

The bridges will show up under system devices.  If you open the properties for the PCI-8361's bridge, go to the details tab, and select "Hardware IDs" from the property list , you should see "1093" as part of the "SUBSYS_" description.  Good luck.

Hi Sal H.

Is the PCI-8360 compatible with Windows 10?

I see that PCI-8360 is still available for purchase at ni.com, but all the documentation available refers only to PCI-8361.

What is the difference between the two? Is PCI-8360 still supported for Windows 10 and LabVIEW 2017?

Thank you!

Sincerely

RagMan,

There's no PCI-8360.  You may have seen a combo kit named something like "PXI-PCI-8360", but that's a PXI-8360 and a PCI-8361.

The PCIe-8361 is a much better option than the PCI-8361, though.  You can continue using a PCI-8361, but for new purchases use the PCIe version.
