Troubleshooting SCXI

Solved!
Go to solution

In the Measurement & Automation Explorer (version 4.5.010) I can see "PXI System (Unidentified)" and under that I see "PXI6::9::INSTR (PCI-6220)" and nothing else. In the SCXI-1001 Chassis I have installed:

- SCSI-1439

- SCXI-1520 (3 of these)

- SCXI-1112
I cannot find any of these in the Measurement & Automation Explorer.Where else should I look?

The documentation I have mentions blown fuses but I cannot find the fuses. The SCXI-1001 Chassis fans make a lot of noise when the Chassis is turned on. Does this indicate the fuses are OK?

I did go through the entire listing in the Measurement & Automation Explorer looking for the hardware installed in the chassis.

It has been a long time since I have used any of this hardware so I have forgotten anything I had ever learned about using it.

Hi JoeSz,

Can you upload a picture of MAX? Can you identify the chassis by right clicking the "PXI System (Unidentified)". Also make sure you have PXI Platform Services

chassis by right clicking the "PXI System (Unidentified)":

Right-clicking produces a pop-up menu. What did you want me to select from that menu?

12 slot chassis has "SCXI-1001" printed on it.

What is "PXI Platform Services"?

Would a bad cable from the PC to the SCXI-1001 produce what I'm seeing?

- I would have expect in the pop-up menu an option to identify the chassis. I'm guessing this is not the case.
- Did you turn on/off correctly the hardware? (Turn ON SCXI Chassis, Turn ON computer) (Turn OFF Computer, Turn OFF Chassis) The system boot up needs to see the cards before booting up if not they are not going to be recognized.

- I'm sorry about suggesting PXI Platform Services driver, that is only needed for PXI Chassises not SCXI. You do need DAQmx though: http://search.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/ap/tech/lang/en/pg/1/sn/ssnav:drv/fil/phwebntpmdm:124054/

- A bad cable could potentially cause that.

- Have you checked this guide? http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/373236m.pdf

I'm redoing my reply because I'm not sure I did it correctly the first time. My 1st reply did not show up in the listing.

He is my reply as well as I can reconstruct it:

- Pop-up only shows "PXI-81xx" choices

- Did you turn on/off correctly the hardware? YES

- DAQmx: running version 8.7.2 on Windows 7

I found our "NI-DAQ 7" disks (version 7.3) and installed them. Made no difference.

What should I download from the link provided?

I searched "DAQmx Windows 7" and got 69 possibilities.

- Cable: Got continuity on all the pins.

- Guide: YES. The chassis was in the same configuration that it had last worked in. We had removed the PCI-6220 card from the PC it had been in and kept it in a foil envelop. The data & power cables had been disconnected from the chassis. It had been so long since we had used the hardware I didn't remember the installation sequence. We have been using Labview 8.6 as a GUI to our DAQ/Control test system.

I am I having problems because of the age of the software?

It could be a problem, just to eliminate this possibility try to install DAQmx 9.5.1

This is because DAQmx 8.7.2 isn't supported in Windows 7 according to the readme file:

http://download.ni.com/support/softlib/multifunction_daq/nidaqmx/8.7.2/readme.html

But DAQmx 9.5.1 is supported in Windows 7 and has support for both LabVIEW 8.6 and PCI-6220:

Spoiler
Thanks A-Guz-Man for the download link but unfortunately that did not solve the problem.
I've attached a screen capture of what I now see in the DAQmx window.
Are there separate SCXI drivers I need to download? I tried searching for "SCXI-1001 driver", "SCXI-1520 driver", and "SCXI-1112 driver",but each produces > 100 results. I don't know how to cut that down.

You are good with DAQmx, that is the driver for SCXI 1001. You can know that by clicking drivers from here: http://www.ni.com/en-us/support/model.scxi-1001.html

I'm still thinking this is an identify system issue.

https://forums.ni.com/t5/Digital-I-O/SCXI-1001-not-detected-in-NI-MAX/td-p/3048499

Can you send me a picture to see the options to identify the system? Besides 83XX does it shows something like create new??
