Using (or rather NOT using it...) a NI-8301 Thunderbolt controller for PXI. I'm using a Dell Precision 7530
Since quite some time I am unable to access some of my cards. In windows device manager:
In MAX:
I've tried uninstalling them in the device manager, updated all drivers I can find related to Thunderbolt for the computer.
Any ideas on how to restore this? Anyone else having issues with the Thunderbolt solution? I really really regret suggesting this solution to the customer right now.
I've used PXI for almost 20 years with no issues what so ever. But this is the first time using Thunderbolt.

What error codes are associated with those yellow bangs in Device Manager? Are they all the same?

Yes,
They are all:
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
Thing is I have no other Thunderbolt devices. A few times the devices have re-occured in MAX. So what used to be PXI1Slot1 was called PXI1Slot1 (1). And then I've had to delete the old ones with a red bang on them. Maybe Windows have stored the old references? Can't find any info on we're to see the Thunderbolt database for Windows.
I've tried resetting the MAX database. But it didn't make any difference. Apart from the controller also having a red bang on it now...

Found the "view hidden devices" in the device manager. And as I suspected it had stocked up on duplicates.
Unfortunately, uninstalling all of them didn't make any difference. except removing all the duplicates.
😞

For the devices that do not have a yellow <!> on them, are you able to successfully run a Self-Test in MAX or via the API?
Update: I'm assuming those devices are also in the chassis, behind the same Thunderbolt cable. Please confirm.

Yes, they are also in the same chassis.
I need to double check. But I think I was able to run a self test on the others. Will check tomorrow.

Yes, The "unbanged" ones are working fine. I've been able to run a few test on my system SW today too using them.
Now trying to convince NI to lend me a set of regular MXI cards and trying to find a stationary PC to continue my verification process.

Big thanks to Matt Krylo from NI for reaching out and offering a solution to this!
