PXIe-8840 officially supports only 8GB RAM, however, 16GB modules are now available such as the Crucial CT204864BF160B for instance. Can somebody confirm that PXIe-8840 can run reliably with 16GB module installed? If, yes then can you please share the module type?
Thank you,
Petr

Hi Petr,
I can confirm that the 8 GiB limit is due to an actual technical limitation, this is the maximum DIMM size with the Broadwell-H platform.
Best regards,

At the time the PXIe-8840 came out 8GB DIMMs were the max but, as Petr pointed out, 16GB DIMMs are now available. Will they work with the controller?

PXIe-8840 physical specs did not changed, and 8GB is still the MAX size of RAM you can use

According to the CPU-Z our NI PXIe-8840 controller CPU is Haswell(5000-series) so 8GB is max. 16GB modules, according to the internet, are supported from Broadwell(5000-series), SkyLake(6000-series), and so on.

Bumping this old thread. I just successfully installed a 16gb DDR3L SODIMM into my NI PXIe-8840QC controller. (Note: This is the Quad-Core version, 8840QC) NI says on their website that 8gb is the maximum, but that is not true. The one I tested is the VisionTek 1x16gb PC3-12800 DDR3L 1600MHZ 204-pin SODIMM Memory Module 900848. VisionTek 1 x 16GB PC3-12800 DDR3L 1600MHz 204-pin SODIMM Memory Module 900848, Green/Black at Amazo...

Since this one works, there is probably a good chance that the one Crucial sells would also work.
Now you can save thousands of dollars to give your controller a performance boost, no need to upgrade yet 🙂
