PXIE-8880 Link Configuration

Solved!

Is it possible (How?) to force the controllers "Link Configuration" to x4, x4, x4, x4?

See p A-1 in "NI PXIe-8880 User Manual"

I think there is nothing to configure, the manual states that the link config for PXIe4 link config is x4

Maybe I am misinterpreting but the manual states (p A-1 doc mentioned above):
PXIE Express 4 Link Configuration x4, x4, x4, x4

PXIE Express 2 Link Configuration x8, x16.

In BIOS I can see two "Links", I want to force the controller to use the 4 Link configuration of the IF.

It's dependent on the PXIe chassis the 8880 is installed in. All PXIe chassis that I know of are either 2 link or 4 link. The controller can switch between a 2 link and 4 link to make it compatible with all PXIe chassis.

For example:

The 1088 is a four link chassis. Meaning, there are four x4 links to the controller slot. So in this chassis, the 8880 would configure itself to connect with four x4s.

The 1095 is a two link chassis with a x8 and x16 link to the controller slot. The 8880 will connect with a x8 and x16 connection when used in this chassis.

In the end, you cannot force the controller to have a four x4 links when the chassis only has two links.

Ok, thanks for replies.

The backplane is a custom with a topology closer to the 1088 chassis. An older 8135-controller identifies the three connected peripherals but the 8880-controller configures itself into 2-links mode, which leaves one peripheral unusable.

The problem was related to the backplane id/conf-EEPROM and its content.
