NI multiplexer v matrix

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help explain when to use a multiplexer or matrix module? If I have say 50 temperature sensors and would like to read and display their values simultaneously in a Labview VI/Front panel could I achieve this with a NI PXI-2576?

Thanks

Hi ausfrosty,

The main difference between a multiplexer and a matrix module is that a multiplexer connects N inputs to 1 output or 1 input to N outputs. A multiplexer however is capable of connecting N inputs to N outputs. The following page gives a great explination of the differences in further detail: http://sine.ni.com/np/app/main/p/ap/mi/lang/en/pg/1/sn/n17:mi,n21:12/fmid/3021/

Regarding your question on the suitability of PXI-2576, this would really depend on the sensor type that you are using. Should you be using thermocouple modules, the 2576 may be suitable for your application should you already have this card. If however, you are looking to purcahse a card specifically for this application, there may be more suitable alternatives.

Please also be aware that all switches will introduce some degree of noise, with relay 'type' being a major . Your selection of switch and relay type will depend on a number of factors. Further detail can be found here:
