Hello,
We are experiencing issues with our NI PXI setup. Initially, we observed this on PXI-4065 DMM card. When this DMM card is plugged into slot 12 of our PXIe-1085, our application software errors out when attempting to make a resistance measurement. We have also noticed that in NI MAX, the DMM in slot 12 is reported as two separate devices. One device shows up as “NI PXI-4065” with a red X and a status code of -233900 (“Internal hardware error in DMM hardware. Please contact National Instruments support.”). It has buttons like reset and soft panel available. Opening the soft panel throws an error of -1074135040 “Unrecoverable failure”. A second device shows up as “PXI-4065”, with no red X and with no buttons like reset or soft panel.
We think it is a PC issue because we have a duplicate NI chassis setup that communicates with a different PC (older motherboard). When we swap the NI chasses between the PCs, the issue follows the PC, not the NI chassis.
Reinstalling Windows and only the NI drivers (version 17.0 May 2017 for NI-DMM, NI-PXI Platform, etc) on this problem PC does not change our DMM issues in NI Max.
Additionally, when the DMM is moved to a different slot (e.g., slot 2 or 9), it functions correctly in NI MAX and its soft panel opens properly. It appears that a PXI-6133 card plugged into slot 12 also fails to function properly.
Could you please provide insight into what might cause issues on these slots with this PC? Any suggestions for next steps would be greatly appreciated.
Hardware Configuration:
Below is a summary of the troubleshooting steps we have performed:
|
Troubleshooting Step / Observation |
Result / Notes |
|
Reboot PC and PXI chassis |
Issue not resolved. |
|
Reinstall Windows and NI drivers |
No change to behavior. |
|
Swap DAQ chassis and DMM card with a working system |
The issue followed the PC, indicating the problem is not with the PXI chassis or DMM card. |
|
Swap PCIe card with a working system |
The issue remained with the problem PC. |
|
Check "Disable Windows fast startup" setting |
Already disabled in Power Options and via group policy. |
|
Verify NI services at boot |
NI Device Loader and all other NI services are running and set to automatic start. |
|
Swap DMM (slot 12) with a DAQ card (slot 2) |
The DMM card worked correctly in slot 2, but the DAQ card did not work in slot 12. |
|
Swap PXI cable with a known-good cable |
The error persisted. |
|
Disable PC sleep/hibernate and PCI Express Link State Power Management in Windows |
No change in behavior. |
|
Verify driver versions |
DMM driver version is identical between the problem system and a working system. |
|
Run application with administrative privileges |
The application still returns an error when attempting communication with DMM. |
|
Reset Configuration Data in NI MAX |
Cards in the rightmost slots of the chassis still do not function correctly. |
|
Disable ASPM for all PCI slots |
Cards in the rightmost slots still fail to function. |
