IEEE 1588-2008 on PXIe (NI Linux RT)

Solved!
Go to solution

On PXIe (Linux RT), is it possible to enable/configure PTP (1588-2008) without a PXI-6683H timing and sync card?  I could do this on Pharlap using "NI-TimeSync Time Reference for IEEE 1588-2008".

I'm using a PXIe-8840 quad-core with 20.5 Linux RT system image and LabVIEW 2020.  It seems I'm limited to using the NI-Sync drivers which require an ni-sync resource.

I'd recommend checking out one of the examples mentioned here:

https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/documentation/supplemental/19/using-ni-timesync-to-configure-ieee-1...

You can use the NI-Sync API on Linux RT even without a timing card.

Errr.. actually that might just be on cRIOs.. sorry can't remember if it works on PXI.

The cDAQ/cRIO controllers show up as an ni-sync resource, however the PXI does not, unfortunately.

According to NI-Sync 20.1 documentation,

"Time-based synchronization is fully supported on Phar Lap PXI(e) controllers. Time-based synchronization is supported on NI Linux Real-Time PXIe controllers only if the system includes a PXI-6683 Series timing and synchronization module."
