How do you reset ENET adapter defaults after they were changed.

I was trying to get the ENET adapter of a NI-8156B controller to work and set the address and interrupt to bad values using ISMC9000.exe setup program. How do I get the default values back now that the program doesn't find the adapter?

Here are the default values for the enet adapter:

Wait States -> NO
8/16 bits -> 16
Interrupt Line -> 02
I/O Port Address -> 0300
Boot Rom Size -> Disable
Boot Rom Address -> D0000
Media Type -> 10BASE-T
RAM Speed ->SLOW
RAM Size -> 6kb
Ethernet Address -> 00802F04####

Do not be confused that the interrupt listed here is different than that for the ENET adapter in the Windows setup, which is set to 9. This interrupt represents the chip interrupt, and 02 is the proper setting. The # signs listed in the Ethernet Address above are four hex digits that are unique to each controller. The decimal form of this number is listed on the side of the controller on a sticker that has a barcode and reads ENET #. For example, if it reads ENET # 015470, the 15470 would
convert to 3C6E in hex. The Ethernet Address in this case would be 00802F043C6E.

Thanks for the answer but it doesn't tell me how to get these values reset into the controller.

There is a DOS utility that can do this called I9000PRO, which is contained in the zip file below. This utility can be used to verify the current settings of the EEPROM, adjust the settings, and also to restore the factory defaults.

Thanks again but the response to the I9000PRO program I get is "Error f001: Could not find SMC9000 Card" Did the ENET adapter break?

There could be a hardware problem with the enet adpater, but you should reinstall it just in case. You should remove any entry for enet adapters in Device Manager, and then go through the procedure for reinstalling the enet adapter. I have written a Knowledge Base that details how to do this, KB 2HLC95UK. You can search for this KB ID on our main site, or try this link to the page:

Beyond that, I would recommend calling our support lines so that we can try troubleshooting with you further. Ultimately, a repair may be necessary.
