Hazardous voltage error (PXIe-4136) after self-calibration

Ever since I performed the self-calibration in NI-Max for the SMU PXIe-4136 (the self-calibration was successful), I get the following error as soon as I try to output a voltage:

 

ModularInstruments.NIDCPower: A hazardous voltage was detected at the output while the interlock circuit was open. Fix the problem and reset the device to return to normal operation. For more information, refer to the NI-DCPower documentation.

Self Test Code: 8192

Status Code: -235113
Error code: -1074118531

 

The PXIe-4136 is housed in a PXIe-1095 chassis and connects to a Windows PC via Thunderbolt (PXIe-8301).

 

After resetting the device, the self-test runs successfully, but the error still occurs every time I try to output a voltage again.

Rebooting the system or changing the slot does not solve the problem. 

 

Has anyone else had a similar experience, or do you have any ideas on how to solve this?

When you source the voltage, have you closed the safety interlock switch or path?

Hi Santhosh,

I've tried both. When the interlock is closed (limit is 200V), the error occurs as soon as I set the voltage higher than ~6V; when the interlock is open (limit is 40V), I can't set the voltage at all.

Edit: Using the NI-DCPower Source DC Voltage.vi from the examples provided by NI I can source a voltage up to 6.6V if the safety interlock is closed. Anything higher than 6.6V triggers the OLP error.

With safety interlock closed, are you able to successfully generate voltage using InstrumentStudio Soft Panel?

Yes, I am able to generate a voltage using the InstrumentStudio but only up to 6,6V. After that I get the OPL error:

 

ModularInstruments.NIDCPower: The device has activated Overload Protection (OLP). The detected overload reason was: FullRangeOvervoltage. This can occur if a voltage is detected at the output that exceeds the device limits. Visit ni.com/info and enter "OLPError" for additional info.

Self Test Code: 4096

Status Code: -1074118475
Error code: -1074118475

 

Even when I try to set it to 6.7V, I get the OLP error.

Please try the following scenario for sanity, 

  1. Use InstrumentStudio Soft Panel
  2. Configure Local sense
  3. Connect a 100k (or any high value that can tolerate the voltage and heat generated) resistor across HI and LO
  4. Do not connect HI Sense or LO Sense
  5. Close safety interconnect
  6. Try generating a wide range of voltages

You shouldn't be seeing an OLP, if you still observe, the hardware may be damaged and you need to raise a support request and may send for repair.
