Generate a waveform after trigger (PXIe-8840 and PXIe-5644 VST)

Solved!
Go to solution

Maybe this is a very simple question, but I have not been very clear about it.

I have a controller PXIe-8840 and a VST5644. Now I want to generate a waveform after triggering by VST, I connect the trig(8840) with the PFI0(5644) with a line. My idea is that the 8840 generates a high level through the trig interface to trigger the PFI0 interface of the VST.

I don't know if this is feasible and what should I do?

Thanks!

Have you read this KB?

How Can I Access The Trig Line On My PXI Controller to Input/Output A Trigger?

I agree it. Why don't you directly connect trig to PFI0 line on 5644?

Thank you, Emboar

In the link, the solution recommends not using the controller's trig interface. I don't know why.

Now limited by hardware, I only have one controller and one VST. So I want to connect trig(8840) with PFI0(5644) as a training of the hardware trigger.  I don't know how to generate a trigger TTL output by trig(8840) interface.

Thanks for your reply!

According to "Additional Information",

The PXI trig line's recommended use it to reset the watchdog on your PXI controller

and is not meant to export signals to the backplane of the PXI chassis, and no API exists to interface with this line.

Am I have a misunderstanding? You want to generate TTL from PXIe-8840?

Thank you Emboar!

I am looking for the API of the trig(8840),and generate TTL. It looks like not be feasible.

If I have two VSTs ,I can make a trigger signal by one PFI0 and delivery it to the other PFI0 interface.

I don't know if I think so right.

Umm... I cannot understand what you want to do...

Which was a trigger source from PXIe-8840? (as you know, it cannot do)

You want to manually start generation or acquisition on VST?

Or based on other task (generation or acquisition start)? In any case, using two VSTs must be not efficient way.

I am sorry that I have not returned your message for some time. I understand the problem with the trigger according to your answer. Thank you so much.
