Hello Discussion Board,
I was trying to connect the PXIe to our laptop using NI MAX as stated in the startup guide. It appears that I cannot right click on the PXIe (1083) unit in order to start the Self-Test. I looked it up on the support pages, and found a page describing the problem. I went through all of the three types of potential solutions, but it still did not fix the problem. I also repaired the DAQ packages just in case, but still was not able to right click and Self-Test.

Here is the guide for reference (page 3 - "Configuring the Device in NI MAX")

FYI - PXI Chassis DOES NOT have a Self Test feature, only instruments have this feature. Self Test is performed by the driver establishing communication with the instrument.

Ok, do I need to configure it as an instrument somehow? The startup guide did not mention anything to that effect.
I also tried skipping the "Configuring the Device in NI MAX" section and going to the "Programming" section, but it did not read my connected DAQ input.

My PXIe-1083 shows an amber light which indicates "Power is within spec; no link to chassis". I connected it to my computer through a USB-C Thunderbolt. Is there something that I'm doing wrong?

What are you trying to achieve? if you want to do a self-test on PXI chassis - no, it is not possible.
Regarding your recent issue of not detecting the PXIe chassis - please troubleshoot using this article https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000004BA0SAM&l=en-IN
BTW, what instruments are installed in the 1083 chassis?
