The PXI-1042 is a PXI chassis that holds PXI modules. In order to write a program for your system, you will communicate with these modules, not the chassis.
There are examples in LabVIEW that demonstrate how to program PXI modules, but you need to know what modules you are trying to program. In LabVIEW 7, examples for programming your Data Acquisition (DAQ) devices or Modular Instruments can be found by opening LabVIEW and creating a new VI. Select the Help Menu, select Find Examples, and select Hardware Input and Output.
