LabVIEW Graphical Programming, 5th Edition

If you have not already heard, one of our LabVIEW User Group Leaders, Fabiola De la Cueva, has a new book out! She is one of the authors of the new “LabVIEW Graphical Programming, 5th Edition” which is now available on Amazon for pre-order. The book will be released on November 11, 2019. Click here to pre-order today!

Description:

LabVIEW programming techniques, tips, and practices. Learn to build effective LabVIEW programs using the detailed information contained in this thoroughly revised resource. This edition updates all content to align with the latest version and adds new chapters that clearly explain object-oriented programming methods, and programming in teams using the cloud. LabVIEW Graphical Programming, Fifth Edition begins with basics for beginners and quickly progresses to intermediate and advanced programming techniques. Written by a pair of LabVIEW experts, this hands-on guide shows how to work with data types, start building your own applications, handle I/O, and use the DAQmix library. You will also find out how to build applications that communicate with enterprise message brokers and with Amazon Web Services’ Internet of Things (IoT) message broker.

Coverage includes:

  • The origin and evolution of LabVIEW
  • LabVIEW programming fundamentals
  • Data acquisition
  • Object-oriented programming in LabVIEW
  • Frameworks, including the Delacor Queued Message Handler (DQMH®) and Actor Framework
  • Unit testing
  • Enterprise and IoT messaging
  • Programming in teams using the cloud

I usually don't buy books about LabVIEW, but I just ordered a copy on Amazon of this one.  I've known of and spoken with Fabiola many times since she started with NI and I'm buying the book to see if any of the discussions we had back when she was just starting out and wasn't famous yet made it into the book.  Smiley LOL   Just kidding (about our discussions being in the book - but who knows?).  I think it will be an excellent reference work and it will look nice in my home office with the few other LabVIEW books I have purchased or acquired over the years. (remember when NI classes came with printed materials?  I do!).

Fab,

Q#1: Actor Framework Project Template (Chapter 5 pp.369) is not available under LabVIEW 2019 or Am I missing something?

Q#2: Do you have a book webpage to allow reader to ask questions?

It is still there, perhaps a more clear way to describe it would have been, from the Getting Started Window>>Create Project then in the Templates section, look for the Actor Framework that takes you to the Actor Framework Project Template as seen in the image below

We have a LinkedIn page at https://www.linkedin.com/company/lgp5

Also, you can get the accompanying code and report issues with the code or the book at https://github.com/LGP5/Resources

Errata: https://github.com/LGP5/Resources/blob/master/Errata

Issues: https://github.com/LGP5/Resources/issues

For DQMH questions: https://forums.ni.com/t5/Delacor-Toolkits-Discussions/bd-p/7120

Also, feel free to send me a direct message with your questions.

I hope this helps.

Enjoy your reading! Remember the book was written with the idea that each chapter could stand on its own, so no need to read it back to back as if it was a novel.

Enjoy!

Fab
