Project Information

Project Title:

Vehicle Fuel Consumption Monitoring and Traffic prediction system

Hardware & Software Used:

Software:

Labview, eclipse, Google Maps API, Windows Azure

hardware (Not used as Hardware was not delivered, only software was implemented):

sbRIO, ChipKit

What challenge/problem are you trying to solve through your application:

1. Giving user information about fuel consumed on various routes on a daily basis to allow him or her to select the route which uses least amount of fuel.

2. Giving warnig about traffic jams and traffic signals.

3. Predicting traffic jams.

4. Give the estimated time in which a user will encounter next traffic signal.

5. Giving a user detailed information about a vehicle without using off the shelf obd diagnostics tools which generally are quite expensive.

How does your application solves the above mentioned challenge/problem:

Our application analyses data obtained from gps and obd connection to calculate the fuel consumption on a per route basis. It monitors the time average of gps coordinates of large number of users to predict traffic jams.It Compares the fuel economy of cars of same make and model to figure out better driving practices.
For saving fuel, our application implements the much used practice in mobile telecom , where users are provided with ways to monitor account balance and pending bills , using which a user can make wise decisions regarding mobile usage. By providing such detailed info about fuel consumption gives the user a chance to improve driving and to select routes which have less traffic and which lead to less usage of fuel.

For getting information about traffic signal, the project compares the users current location with the database of coordinates of traffic signals. The user is informed about any traffic light that might fall in his or her route and which lies withing a certain radius of the user's current location.

Description of Project:

The project consists of three parts:

1. getting data from obd using sbRIO

2. getting lcation data from gps

3. sending data to server for analysis

This project uses google maps api to analyse and compute most of the location related queries, like showing the current location to user on a small map and getting traffic scenarios. The Data is collected and sent to server by labview. The server maintains the information about user's current location and hosts certain webpages, which are fetched by labview and then rendered to show the user a miniature map.
