TS base deploy license 2x activation - impact?

I have accidentally activated the same Base Deployment License on two machines, one active in the field and one in the lab being configured.  Windows 10 64-bit OS, TestStand 2016-SP1.

An unusal circumstance to be sure but I am concerned the in-field system will stop working in the field/factory abruptly.

1) If the in-field system user interface running, will it continue to run?

2) Will the in-field system start if not currently NOT running?

3) Does this deauthorize the license on the in-field system?

4) If I deactivate the just-installed license on the lab system, will that allow the in-field system to remain active?  Or does the deactivate action affect both machines?

5) If (4b) is false, does the in-field system need the license reactivated as well?

Note: I have briefly run the lab-local TestStand user interface. Does that change the status of the license to 'used' from 'just installed' (if it makes a difference)?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

i'm not aware of any automated license deactivation unless it is a limited license (e.g. valid for a month only). Which means, that technically there shouldn't be an issue in the future.

HOWEVER, depending on the chosen license model you are potentially breaking the EULA (End User License Agreement). I expect the TS Base Deployment license to be a Single Seat license with Computer Based agreement. Which means that it must be active on a single PC only (or none), not on multiple PCs. It doesn't matter who is using the license, which means that there is no limitation on users (on that one PC).

A Developer Based agreement would allow the license to be active on up to three computers, however it must only used by a single developer.

As a result, i recommend you to deactivate one of the licenses to be sure to not break the EULA in case you have a computer based runtime license.

Your signature does indicate you are from NI. I am completely aware of the licensing issues. If you bothered to review the questions I asked, they were all about funtionality, not legal issues.

To complete this story, the license has been deactivated on the local lab system and a new license activated on it.

Summary: There has not appeared to be any license deactivation on the original system so far.  If that changes, I will update this topic for future readers.

As i wrote: Technically, there shouldn't happen an automated "shutdown" of your license....
