Encoder sensor

Please is there any one who can explain the real meaning of the following in an encoder sensor to me, index pulse triggered, 16 bit position (count), count per revolution, reloded value count, angle (degree). Is there any formula or equation that relate these terms.  Or how do I calculate the angle position. Thank you.
