image template in Utilsim

Hi

I'm new and was wondering if there's an option to use an image (jpg or bmp) as a template to design a PCB on Ultiboard.  Kind of like the way you work on Corel or Ilustrator where you import an image file and can draw on another layer, and when done delete the image.

Thank You for your help in advance.

jmbarato,,

Thanks for your question.   First of all, the specific product is called Ultiboard🙂

Second, there are multiple user layers that can be used for various purposes.   Specifically there are several mechanical layers that can be used as 'utility' layers and these can have a predefined color, or be 'grayed' out as semi transparent.

The best file to import into Ultiboard is DXF (there are programs (some free/low cost) that can convert various picture or drawing files into DXF).   The new DXF import in Ultiboard v12 is very nice (since you can map DXF layers to Ultiboard).   The DXF file format has extra X-Y dimension information that allows you to correctly scale the mechanical drawing to the correct size.

Regards,

Pat N
