I need to purchase a laptop for my child, a junior in a technical high school who intends to persue an engineering degree in college. I was going to get her a Macbook but she would prefer that to run NI Multisim 14.2 rather than Multisim Live.
Does anyone have any specific recommendations, positive or negative, for a Windows laptop in regards to NI Multisim? For instance:
What screen size is desirable to work comfortably?
Are 4K screens incompatible with Multisim?
How much ram is desirable to run Multisim?
How much disk space does a student need to store their projects?
Is an i5 adequate or will an i7 processor improve performance dramatically?
Are there vendors to avoid in regards to pre-installed spyware (e.g. Lenovo / Superfish)?
Does a touchscreen provide any benefit when using Multisim?
Do you prefer to use a big external monitor when using Multisim?
My default choice is the LG Gram 14 for $950. It is highly rated on Consumer Reports, has a 10th gen i5, 8 gb ram, 14" HD screen, weighs 2.2 lbs. and is in-stock now.
Is it good enough? Anyone have a better recommendation at around $1000?
