IPC Capacitor footprint help

The link provided by NI does not explain how to find the IPC spacing footprint for a capacitor

 

There description only mkaes sense for RES and IND

 

How do you use this thing for Caps?

this question has been asked numerous times by other people and never answered

 

For example im trying to figure out waht footprint to use for this part

Hi RScott2015,

 

I apologize for the slow response. 

 

It looks like the part you are looking at uses a pin to pin spacing of 9.5mm, so according to the document you linked you would be looked for something from the CAP950-xxxXxxx group of footprints. It looks like we don't have anything readily available from the Master database, and besides that, the part you are looking at has a 1.2mm lead offset - I don't think we ship any IPC footprints that match this setup. 

 

Unfortunately when designing PCB boards you will often have to go through the legwork of creating your own footprints to match the specific requirements you need. It may help to do that in this case, please see this tutorial for help doing so. 

 

Your other option is to use a footprint that is "close enough". Since your part is a common ceramic capacitor with bendable leads, depending on your needs you may be able to use a footprint with larger or smaller pin-to-pin spacing and simply bend the leads as needed.
