CD4020

Hello everyone,

I am trying to get different outputs from a 14 stage binary counter. I am using for reset a 100nF capacitor connected to ground and for clock an oscillator made of 2 nand gates. The counter that I am using is 4020BD_5V.

I used a probe to check the input from the clock (which varies between  0 and 5V) and a probe to check the output at the first pin. Why is the output always 0V?

Thank you so much

Hi Patricia25,

The RESET input of CD4020 (4020BD) is active high not active low. Try connecting the capacitor from RESET to +5 V (Vdd). Don't forget the resistor (1 kΩ to 10 kΩ) from RESET to Vss (ground).

Best regards,
G. Goodwin
